I chose to read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. The main character, Brian, really surprised me with his perseverance and bravery. All throughout this story Brian was faced with struggles and troubles but always problem solved and stayed strong. He travels north in this books and is stuck, alone, deep in the woods. There are several occasions where Brian encounters animals or insects he wouldn't find in the city and I could relate. When I moved to New Hampshire the wildlife was so different than where I was from and I was so surprised and scared at times. Overall I found Hatchet to be a great read that definitely kept my attention.
ReplyDeleteI read Hatchet too. Hatchet is is about a boy name brian who was stranded out in the woods. He got there when he was on a plane and his pilot had heart attack and the plane crashed and he survived. In the woods he was all alone and his pilot was dead and the plane was wrecked. He was alone with survival skills. He tried to radio and call for help but he got nothing but silence. Then when he assumed that no one would come for him he started to build a shelter and started to gather food. He was trying to stay alive he had to hunt for food and build a fire. At the end of the book brian gets rescued by a helicopter.
DeleteThe book I chose to blog about and read is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. The main character in this book is a teenage boy named Brian. Brian starts his story on a small aircraft above the Canadian forests on his way to visit his dad. The plane dives into a lake and Brian is forced to make do with the very few items he has. Brian found his strength and his true self out in the wilderness. Brian learned how to feed himself, make shelter, fight for his life and much more. He never gave up even when things weren't looking to good. After a long while he is finally rescued and brought back home. Where I live I am surrounded by wild animals and nature. I liked this story for all the interesting parts and cliff hangers. This was a great book and I suggest it to others.
ReplyDeleteSince I already read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen I chose to read the Sequel, The River. A character that impressed me the most was Brian. It has been two years since Brian has been in the woods however, he goes back to help researcher Derek Holtzer discover more about survival. They take nothing but a radio and a suitcase for Derek to take his notes. What impressed me the most is how quickly Brian remembers when they first land. “He became suddenly, what he’d been before at the lake. Part of it, all of it, inside all of it so that every . . . single . . . little . . . thing became important.” (25) Instantly Brian knew what to do, what they needed to get, and how to get it. It fascinated me that he not only remembered the wilderness, but he remembers being apart of the wilderness. How everything in the forest is an important resource they can use. Brian was so serious about this experiment that within three days they already had everything they needed! Food and water to last a month, firewood, shelter, even soft beds! They had all the comforts of home due to Brian's survival nature. Until...
ReplyDeleteI chose to read My Side of the Mountain by Jean George. The main character was Sam and what he did was he want to live in the woods his dad said he didn’t care because he knew he would only last one night and want to come home so he said yes. So he went out in the woods and he ends up staying there for a long time and he ends up meeting new people and get a friend bird. The one thing that I thought was amazing is that he made his house by hand and his bed and everything he wanted he had to make by hand and he did it.
ReplyDeleteThe free-read book I chose to read about was Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, sense I had read this book in 4th grade, I decided to re-read it because I have learned much more reading skills sense then, and decided I could get more out of the book. Brian impressed me with his calmness and how he tried to steadily fly the plane after the pilot had suffered a heart attack, killing him. Brian uses both skills he's seen on TV and learned in school to survive in the Canadian wilderness, foraging the land for the necessary resources of survival, such as food water and shelter. One thing I found amazing about this book is how he had the strength and grit to keep himself going, and never give up.
ReplyDeleteI choose to read Never Cry Wolf. I already read Hatchet and My Side Of the Mountain so I decided to choose this one instead. I liked this book because I love animals, not to mention wolves. I'm not a huge fan of non-fiction books but I actually enjoyed this one, because I learned a lot about wolves. I already new a majority, but I also learned a little more about them. And not only the wolves, I learned a little more about science, plants, and people out in the world and what they eat in the area that they live in and how they survive out in the wild. It was a good story and I'm glade that I read the book and choose it.

ReplyDeleteI chose to read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. The main character's name is Brian. In the beginning, he goes on a plane ride to visit his Father in the Catskill Mountains. When he is flying, the pilot has a heart attack and crashes. He survives, then becomes stranded in the Catskills with little food, no shelter, and little water. He then has to survive on his own. A new thing that I learned from this book is the basic things needed for survival in the wild. I think this book is a great book and I would recommend it to others. I would give it an 8.5/10.
ReplyDeleteI read Jurassic Park: The Lost World. I read this book because at the time of Jurassic World's launch, I was very interested in the original Jurassic Parks full story, I had already read the first and decided to finish it with this book. The book was a great sequel to the first book, and this one is three times better than the movie with its name. It elaborated on the science behind the first book, it was extremely informational compared to other books in the same genre. The whole book takes place on a jungle island where the adventurers who dared brave it had to fight for survival.
ReplyDeleteI read the hatchet and the river by Gary Paulson. In the book hatchet Brian the main character is flying in a plane to go see his dad. Then the driver has a heart attack and the plane crashes. Brian has to survive in the wild until somebody finds him. In the book the River a guy wants brian to show him how he survived. but then the guy gets struck by lightning. So then brian has to build a raft and bring him down the river to the nearest town so he can save his life.
ReplyDeleteI chose to read the book hatchet by Gary Paulsen. In this book the main character, Brian is on his way to visit his father. On his way the pilot has a heart attack and died. The plane would end up crashing in the wilderness. He would have to face animals he had never seen before and would have to find food and shelter. Brian has so much grit and determination that he would end up surviving the journey. I loved this book because Brian never gave up even in the toughest of times. I think it is a great book and recommend it.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Hatchet my Gary Paulsen. Brian, a city boy, was on his way to visit his father after his parents divorce. During the flight, the pilot suffered a fatal heart attack and the plane flew off course. Brian managed to get the plane back in control, but eventually crashed in a lake when the plane ran out of fuel. He managed to survive on fish and berries, all the while, being haunted by his mother's secret. He has many close calls with wildlife and weather, but after finding and opening the survival kit, he finds a device that sent out a distress signal and is later saved by a pilot who heard the sent out signal.
ReplyDeleteThis summer I read hatchet by Gary Paulsen. Hatchet is about a young boy named Brian who gets into a plane crash in Canadian wilderness and has to survive. I genuinely surprised on how well Pulsen brought out the suspense and fear brian would have been feeling. I also enjoyed at the end when Brian tries to transition back into his city life style and how adaptive he became being lost. I thought Paulsen did a great job in how brian adapted to the wilderness unlike other survival books I've read. Most of the other books don't mention on the physical changes the character goes through but Pulsen did a tremendous job on making Brian become adaptive and the changes his body went through. Overall Hatchet was a great book.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. this book is about a 13 year old named brian who is going to his dads for the summer and his mom gives him a hatchet. Brian and the pilot were the only people on the plane and the pilot had a heart attack and brian had to lad the plane in a like he swam to the shore and he rested. after he made himself a shelter in a carved out rock. he found berrys and then he had to learn to hunt and fish. and he could then eat food
ReplyDeleteThis summer, not surprising that I read Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, apparently everyone else did to. Brian is on a plane to his fathers house, when the plane broke down into a lake. He was literally surrounded by forest. Not knowing where he is, and all he has is a hatchet. It is amazing how Paulsen showed how Brian changed during the experience he went through, The suspense was awesome and it brought you to the edge of your seat. Hatchet was a really great book.
ReplyDeleteI finished the book Avalanche. The ending of the book surprised me because one of the main characters died in an avalanche. The book has to do with forestry because they were surviving in the mountains. My favorite part in the book was when Noah and Tom were rock climbing and Noah reached the top of the rock climbing wall. My least favorite part of the book was when Noah and Tom went to Brook Aston's funeral.
ReplyDeleteThis summer I chose to read The Sign of the Beaver. The Sign of the Beaver is about a boy who leaves with is father to Maine from Massachusates. The boy's name is Matt. Matt has to survive by him self when is father leaves for the rest of his family. Matt befriended a Native American boy named Attean. They spent almost everyday together until he moved away and Matt's family came after a long time.
ReplyDeleteI chose to read the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. This book was about a boy named Brain who gets crash lands in a lake in the Canadian wilderness. This happens well trying to fly to his fathers for the summer. He learns to survive with only his hatchet a present from his mother. Throughout the summer Brain learns how to make fire with his hatchet and eats anything that is edible and he can get his hands on. Well being alone so long Brian gets home sick and fells really lonely. About a month later a tornado strikes the area and pulls the tail of the plane towards the shore of the lake. Trying to get in the plane Brian drops his hatchet in the bottom of the lake and has to go retrieve it. Inside the plane Brian finds additional food, an emergency transmitter, and a .22 rifle. He turns on the transmitter but not knowing how to use it thinks its broke and throws it on the ground but it sends out a signal that is heard by a passing plane and he is later saved.
ReplyDeleteThe book I chose to read was Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat. I found this book pretty interesting and learned a lot about wolves and life up in northern Canada. I am not a big fan of non-fiction so I did find this book boring at times but overall it was pretty interesting and a good book. Never Cry wolf is about an environmentalist named Farley Mowat who goes to Canada to study wolves. While he is there he forms relationships with each of the wolves he studies and some Eskimos he meets. The main three wolves that he studies are given names; George, Angeline, and Uncle Albert. It surprised me how well Farley got to know these wolves and really understand their personalities and basically become a part of their family. Farely also met an Eskimo named Ootek, who really surprised me throughout the story. The two of them really got to know eachother and communicate well even though they spoke diferent languages. I thought this book was pretty good over all and I would recomend it for people who like non-fiction and are interested in animals.
