ReplyDeleteThe book I read about social justice is I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai. This was a truly inspiring book. I Am Malala is about a girl who stood up for women's rights. She was a voice for any girl all over the world who wanted so badly to go to school but couldn't. Despite the war against the Taliban, Malala proudly stood up for girls rights to go to school. When the Taliban first started to attack many parents pulled their girls out of school because it wasn't very safe for them to go to school anymore. Despite what was happening, Malala walked proudly to school everyday, refusing to give into the Taliban. Malala was soon interviewed by many journalists from all over the world who were in awe of how inspiring she was. Malala was shot in the face three times one day on her bus ride to school. One bullet hit the left side of her forehead, and traveled the length of her face, underneath her skin, and then went into her shoulder. Even gun shots couldn't stop Malala. After being treated at the hospital, Malala was still -and always will be- a voice for girls education. She has gone on to win many awards, one being the Nobel Peace Prize. I think after reading this, I realized how much we take for granted. Many people complain about going to school, however there are many children in the world who wish to go to school but can't. After reading this, I know for sure that I will try not to, ever, complain about going to school. School is a wonderful privilege that we are extremely lucky to have.

ReplyDeleteThe Social Justice book that I read was I Am Malala, apparently a popular choice :)... This book has opened up my eyes in more ways than one. I now realize the devastation and pain that is happening all around the world. Before I feel as though I viewed it on a different level. I wasn't completely grasping that terrible things do happen. Malala's story has brought me to understand the hardships that go on in this world every single day. Malala is such an inspiring figure for both men and woman everywhere. (Just because she is standing up for womens rights doesn't mean she cannot inspire a male)... Malala believes in education for everyone, and she cannot be shut down by the Taliban. She has already made such an impact on the world and her words have helped everyone to understand that education is a tremendous gift and should be taken with great appreciation. She stayed confident and stayed strong in bad situations and now she has achieved her goal; to show the world that education is important and that anyone can change something if they truly believe in it and are willing to fight for it.
ReplyDeleteI read "To Kill A Mockingbird" for this project and I admit, it was verry boring at first. I could't make any sense of what was happening and the events seemed compleatly disconnected. But as I read on I started to notice connections with the events. Eventually at the end things made a lot more sense but there are still things that I didn't get. Overall, I think that "To Kill A Mockingbird" was an ok, book but I didn't really love it.
ReplyDeleteI read I Am Malala for my summer vacation book. This book is about a girl who's home town gets attacked by the Taliban and her rights to go to school disappear within a couple weeks. Malala is forced to take extra precautions when doing things such as watch TV and has to sneak away to school were only a couple girl students attend. Malala is very brave because she never gives up fighting for what she believes in even when her life is on the line. This book showed me just how lucky I am to have a safe home and have a school I can go to school and not worry about my life being in danger. In conclusion this book is really good and shows you a little more of the outside world
ReplyDeleteI read the book Juvie for my summer reading. It was about a boy named Russ that went to juvie because he was trying show off to his friends. He stole a very expensive car and let his friend drive it. His friends got into an accident and Russ was blamed for it because all of his friends ditched him. He went to Juvie and met a friend named Mouse. I was surprised that Russ was put in jail for so long even though her didn't get into the accident. It wasn't all of his fault and he was blamed for it all. It surprised me that they didn't ask more questions or do more research to try to find more evidence.
